The Australian Government formally announced the 2018 Review of the Woomera Prohibited Area (WPA) Coexistence Framework on 11 May 2018.

The WPA is an important Defence capability and testing and evaluation asset that plays a significant role in Australia's national security. It is located in the highly prospective Gawler Craton which hosts the world class Olympic Dam copper gold uranium mine.

The Review aims to deliver a framework that maintains the primacy of Defence use of the WPA while maximising its significant value to South Australia's resources sector, pastoral operations, Aboriginal communities, and other stakeholders.

The Australian Government undertook an extensive consultation including regional meetings with all WPA stakeholders, and a public submission process through the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Innovation and Science Consulation Hub was initiated.

The South Australian Government submission on the Review has now been published.

More information about the Review and the South Australian Government's submission can be found on the Woomera Prohibited Area page of this website.
