News release: Premier Jay Weatherill, Thursday 17 December 2015

Premier Jay Weatherill today officially opened OZ Minerals new corporate head office in Adelaide, finalising the resource company’s relocation from Melbourne.

“It’s a great pleasure to open the new head offices of OZ Minerals – now a proudly South Australian company,” Mr Weatherill said.

“More than 50 South Australians are now employed by the company in its Adelaide headquarters and hundreds more at its mine sites at Prominent Hill, with plans to grow even further through its Carrapateena project.

“We underlined our support for OZ Minerals move to Adelaide by investing $10 million in a joint research project to improve the quality of copper concentrates in this State.

“This research investment is already paying dividends with early results showing that using this technology we can produce one of the world’s highest copper-in-concentrate levels without impurities.

“The results of this research will deliver significant benefits for the State, not just for the Carrapateena project, but also for the entire South Australian copper industry.”

OZ Minerals Chairman Neil Hamilton said the transition from Melbourne to Adelaide had been seamless and the company had enjoyed many significant successes since the move.

“There’s a real chance that South Australia will become a copper mining powerhouse and OZ Minerals wants to be a part of it,” Mr Hamilton said.

“Most of our assets are in this state so it makes sense to call Adelaide home. Since moving our headquarters, we’ve employed over 50 people from this fantastic city and we have plans to grow further.

“We’ve also formed innovative partnerships with local universities and are prioritising local businesses when buying goods and services.”

OZ Minerals has also shown its confidence in the potential of South Australia’s copper belt through a partnership with Minotaur Resources to accelerate exploration near Prominent Hill.

The State Government last year set itself a target of attracting three resources companies to move their head office to Adelaide.

Today’s official opening of the OZ Minerals’ head office follows ASX-listed Hillgrove Resources announcement last week it will relocate its head office from Sydney to Adelaide in early 2016.
