South Australian Government investing in mineral exploration, data and innovative technology
The Accelerated Discovery Initiative (ADI) embraces innovation, collaboration and capacity building to advance exploration activity in South Australia. It provides a co-funded Government contribution toward exploration activities, contributing to the South Australian Growth Agenda target through supporting the potential discovery of new mineral and groundwater resources, while delivering a number of other economic and social benefits.
Successful applicants for Round 1 of the Initiative have been announced by the Minister for Energy and Mining, Hon Dan van Holst Pellekaan MP, with a funding total of $2,977,600 for the 14 project proposals.

About the initiative
A strong resources sector is an essential component of South Australia’s prosperity. Accounting for more than 35% of state exports, increased mining, mineral processing and supply chain activities are crucial to achieving the South Australian 3% growth target. Resource sector growth relies on sustained exploration activity and a healthy pipeline of mineral discoveries.
The Accelerated Discovery Initiative (ADI) aims to make a major contribution to achieving the South Australian Growth Agenda target through supporting the potential discovery of new mineral and groundwater resources, while delivering a number of other economic and social benefits including:
- data to support development of regional and rural communities
- Aboriginal training and employment opportunities, and
- the development and application of innovative exploration technologies.
A total of $10 million over 3 years is available for approved co-funding exploration activities:
- Single and multiple drilling programs in frontier terrains
- Collaborative innovation and technologies to generate new exploration ideas
- Logistical support in remote greenfield areas
- Encouraging Aboriginal employment during exploration
- Identification and testing of new groundwater resources
- Geophysical programs to test new concepts
